My Workspace Makeover - Pi Wall Coming Together!

So I’ve been slowly chipping away at my workspace reorganization, and I’ve completely changed directions from my original plan. I was going to do the whole server rack thing for my Raspberry Pi collection, but honestly? Server racks are boring (and expensive). Then I got sucked into the IKEA Skadis rabbit hole after seeing some cool setups online.

I originally bought a couple Skadis boards just to organize tools on the brick wall, but these things are addictively versatile. Now I’m thinking “why hide my Pi cluster in some boring rack when I could display them like trophies?” So I’m planning to mount a few panels on the partition wall directly behind my chair. This way I can actually see all my Pi babies working away, plus it gives me a perfect excuse to build some sort of info dashboard to monitor them all (but that’s definitely a project for another day).

The first challenge was figuring out how to actually mount the Pis to the pegboard. I already had these really nice cases that I use for my PoE-powered Pis, so I didn’t want to switch to something completely different. After playing around in Fusion 360 for an evening, I managed to remix the design to add Skadis-compatible hooks to the back. If you want to check it out, I’ve uploaded the files to my Printables page.

Since I’m too impatient to wait for the actual IKEA order to arrive before testing everything, I’ve been 3D printing small sections of Skadis board. Bit ridiculous, I know, but I wanted to make sure everything fits together properly before I commit to the whole setup.

I’m definitely going with the black Skadis boards rather than the white ones. My workspace walls are already bright white, and I think the black boards will make a nice dramatic backdrop. For the Pi cases, I’m leaning toward printing them in bright orange filament - partly because black+orange just looks badass together, but also because it’ll make them stand out nicely against the board. Once I get deeper into organizing them, I might color-code them based on what they do in my network, but for now, orange on black is the starting scheme.

Can’t wait to get this all set up and fill my wall with tiny blinking computers!
