I Needed a Breather
So yeah, it’s been busy on my end for a while now. No grand excuses - I just needed to step away from the keyboard for a bit. I’ve learned the hard way that I tend to go all-in on projects until I’m completely burned out. And once that happens? Those projects might as well be dead to me. My computer graveyard is littered with half-finished code that I just couldn’t bring myself to look at anymore.
Not helping matters was the Euros taking over my evenings. I’m not exactly painting my face with team colors, but international football tournaments are my jam. Hard to focus on coding when there’s a match on every night for weeks. Plus, work has been absolutely kicking my ass lately - the kind of mentally draining stuff that makes you want to just veg out with a good book or mindlessly shoot things in video games when you finally close the laptop.
Anyway, I’m slowly getting back to tinkering with my projects again. The batteries feel recharged. Honestly, I think we need to normalize taking actual breaks from side projects - they’re supposed to be fun, not another obligation that drains you. We wouldn’t dream of working a job without vacation time, so why do we expect ourselves to constantly produce stuff in our free time too?
Breaks are good. Burnout sucks. I’ll take the former to avoid the latter any day.
