Learning FreeCAD

I am moving my day to day CAD to FreeCAD. My work is brackets, mounts, small enclosures, and printable parts. FreeCAD now covers that well, keeps files local, and avoids licensing or connectivity friction.

Why switch

  • Local files I control
  • Works offline
  • Extensible with workbenches and Python
  • No creeping limits for hobby projects

Early impressions

  • Faster once shortcuts are set
  • Constraint solving is solid if sketches stay tidy
  • Exports. STL for printing and STEP for sharing are clean after geometry checks

Short and simple. FreeCAD does what I need and keeps the workflow predictable.
